He referred to Kamarupa as ‘Kamolupa’. Kamrupa is also mentioned in the 11th-century book of Arab historian Alberuni. Thus, from the epic period to the 12th century AD, the eastern frontier country was known as Pragjyotisha and Kamarupa throughout the Aryavarta. The kings here used to call themselves the ‘King of Pragjyotish’.

The arrival of the Ahom people on the eastern hills in 1228 marked a new turning point in history. He ruled Assam for nearly six hundred years. When the power of the Ahom rulers began to wane due to widespread discontent and fighting in the court, the Burmese entered the region from the eastern border. In 1826, this area came under the jurisdiction of the British government when the Burmese handed over Assam to the British government according to the Treaty of Yandabu.
